Medstar Speciality Hospital certified doctors and nurses, to provide quality care for heart diseases and stroke.
Medstar Speciality Hospital also has a certification by AHA to conduct Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Courses for both providers and instructors.
Basic Life Support (BLS)
Basic life support is a level of medical care that is used for victims of life-threatening illnesses or injuries until they can be given full medical care at a hospital. It can be provided by trained medical personnel, including emergency medical technicians, paramedics, and qualified bystanders.
The course is taught in a relaxed, video-based practice while watching an interactive learning environment.
The focus is on active participation with ample opportunity to practice and apply these skills in simulated scenarios. An 80 page American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers manual is supplied prior to the course. Every candidate is assessed at the end using multiple-choice questions (MCQs) test and skill stations. Each candidate will receive an American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare provider’s certificate upon successful completion of the course.
Duration: 3 hours (1 day)
Course location: Medstar Speciality Hospital, Sahakaranagar, Bangalore

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support
Advanced cardiac life support or advanced cardiovascular life support refers to a set of clinical interventions for the urgent treatment of cardiac arrest, stroke and other life-threatening medical emergencies, as well as the knowledge and skills to deploy those interventions. Outside North America, Advanced Life Support is used.
Only qualified health care providers can provide ACLS, as it requires the ability to manage the person's airway, initiate IV access, read and interpret electrocardiograms, and understand emergency pharmacology; these include physicians, pharmacists, dentists, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, nurses, paramedics and other advanced life support trained person.
Some health professionals, or even lay rescuers, may be trained in basic life support (BLS), especially cardiopulmonary resuscitation or CPR, which makes up the core foundation of ACLS.[2] When a sudden cardiac arrest occurs, immediate CPR is a vital link in the chain of survival. Another important link is early defibrillation, which has improved greatly with the widespread availability of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs).
ACLS is a practical, simulated case-based Course that will enhance resuscitation skills in the management of cardiac arrest and peri-arrest patients. Ideal performance is initially demonstrated via video and Instructor. Learning is facilitated by extensive hands-on practice, with each participant getting several opportunities to lead their team in simulated clinical scenarios, guided by positive and constructive feedback.
